Against a backdrop of stunning landscapes, the island of St. Kitts embodies the laid back and gracious charm of the undiscovered Caribbean, offering a wealth of activities and experiences for the visitor. History and culture remain two of its greatest assets, which have left a legacy of famous historic sites such as Brimstone Hill Fortress, the only man-made UNESCO World Heritage Site in the eastern Caribbean. St. Kitts is a fascinating island to explore, whether trekking through its lush rain forest, taking an island safari, touring Romney Manor Botanical Gardens, home of the Caribelle Batik, taking a catamaran cruise or fishing. For the active folks, there are high quality scuba dive sites with incredible coral reefs and fish, a world class 18-hold championship gold course and the island's new zip-line tour. There are plenty of traditional holiday pastimes too, such as water sports, shopping, tennis, gourmet dining, or simply relaxing on one of the island's sandy beaches. Accommodations to suit every style and budget range from beautiful renovated old sugar plantation houses, luxury beach resorts, mid-range hotels and guest houses to private villas. St. Kitts is 69 square miles with a population of about 35.000. The main city is Basseterre. The local beer is Carib and the local dish is stewed salt fish with coconut dumplings. For golfers, the Caribbean challenge is to test yourself to score a "hole in one" at the St. Kitts Royal Golf Club with holes bordering the Atlantic ocean and the Caribbean Sea. What's hot in St. Kitts is Carambola Beach Club on South Friar's Bay which offers modern European cuisine with Caribbean influences. One of it defining features is its 4000 bottle wine cellar with select vintages from every wine growing region in the world. I have had the pleasure of dining at Carambola and Chef Chris Evelyn is amazing. The pumpkin soup is the best I have ever had along with the salmon. Carambola Beach Club is also an excellent place to have a wedding ceremony. Visitors arriving on one of the many cruise ships that visit St. Kitts have no waiting period to get married. So guests can arrive at 8AM, get married on the beach at 11:30 AM, party until 2:00pm and even have an island tour and photos taken. That allows plenty of time to return to the ship and Port Zante. At Caribelle Batik at Romney Manor, batik artisans provide live demonstrations of turning soft Sea Island cotton into colorful batik wear, wall hangings and other "one of a kind" treasures. Music Festival in June is an amazing time to visit St. Kitts. Many world and national artists have graced the stage there. This year Tessanne Chin ( winner of The Voice) returns to St. Kitts. Another awesome time to visit St. Kitts is Carnival time in December. Calypso tents kick off the season in November. The colorful costumes, masqueraders and bands make December a great month to experience St. Kitts. We will be doing a wedding off of the Carnival Valor in July and are so excited to share this beautiful island that we discovered some 8 years ago. We have so many amazing friends and look forward to our next visit.
